The second-floor studio on Fellows Road, near Belsize Park and Primrose Hill, was listed by Salter Rex estate agents as a “0-bedroom flat” — prompting discussion on Reddit’s r/London forum.
The post, viewed thousands of times, featured screenshots of the advert and drew jokes about paying almost £2,000 a month for “luxury claustrophobia”.
One commenter said the property offered “0 bedrooms, 1 existential crisis,” while another asked how a flat “with zero bedrooms can be on the second floor”.
Others speculated that the listing was a data-entry mistake, noting that the apartment is, in reality, a studio with a pull-down Murphy bed hidden behind wardrobe-style doors.
According to the agent’s description, the flat is “bright and spacious” with wooden floors, fitted wardrobes, and a fully tiled shower room, located “only moments from Chalk Farm and Belsize Park”.
The online debate captured a broader frustration over London’s soaring rental market.
“There’s nothing extraordinary about this,” one poster said.
“It’s an extremely expensive area.”
Others compared it to past rents, recalling that similar flats cost around £1,100 just over a decade ago.
Another user remarked: “You’d have to earn at least £45,000 a year to live there.”
The conversation highlighted a common complaint: that even modest spaces in central London are commanding record sums, often marketed with euphemisms such as “studio” or “compact living”.
As one commenter summed it up: “It’s hardly surprising to find an expensive flat in an expensive area — but when £1,850 only buys you a bed in a cupboard, something’s gone badly wrong.”
The flat has since been marked as let agreed.
