A yellow weather warning is in place today (July 6) until 7pm for thunderstorms across large parts of London and Kent.
Today thunderstorms are expected in the south west of England spreading eastwards throughout the morning.
Met Office has warned that thunderstorms could also bring outbreaks of heavy rainfall of up to 25mm, with some areas experiencing up to 60mm of rainfall during repeated thunderstorms.
In London, rainfall is expected to arrive by lunchtime, turning heavy and thundery at around 1pm, before easing gradually by 4pm today with temperatures at a balmy 25 degrees.
The weather will remain cloudy throughout the evening, with the possibility of further heavy and thundery showers, becoming drier with further rain likely to arrive from a northern direction by the early hours.
