Members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) in Epsom, Ewell, Worcester Park, Kingston, Surbiton, New Malden, Tolworth, and Malden Manor collected litter in Kingston, Epsom, and New Malden on Thursday, January 1.
Their efforts were part of a wider UK clean-up campaign that saw more than 2,000 AMYA members volunteer in more than 75 towns and cities.

Talha Niazi, head of community service in AMYA, said: “Islam places great emphasis on loyalty to one’s country and responsibility towards society.
“Our young volunteers are not seeking recognition.
“They are here to serve their communities and show, through action, that caring for our shared spaces is a duty we all hold.”

Equipped with litter pickers and bin bags, teams of volunteers began their work after pre-dawn prayers.
The clean-up is rooted in Islamic teachings that emphasise cleanliness and service to society, and is seen by AMYA members as a practical expression of faith.
AMYA is the UK’s largest Muslim youth organisation, regularly taking part in charitable and community work.
The group operates under its motto of Love for All, Hatred for None.
