Lloyds Bank is set to shut its Hornchurch branch in Station Lane on September 11, Lloyds Banking Group announced today.
It it one 61 Lloyds branches earmarked for closure across the UK as the company – which also owns Halifax and Bank of Scotland – plans to cut costs and move further towards online banking.
Lloyds said that customers who use the Hornchurch branch are “already banking in other ways”, and that transactions over the counter are down 43 per cent on 2019.
A total of 822 customers regularly use this branch each month, the bank said, with almost a third of personal customers aged between 55 and 74.
In the closure statement, the bank said: “Before we close any branch, we look at how our customers are managing their money and using the branch.
“Most customers are now using our mobile banking app, Internet Banking or calling us instead, which means they are using branches much less.
“Because of this, we’ll be closing our Station Lane Hornchurch branch.”

The banking group offered Halifax in High Street, Hornchurch, as an alternative to the Station Lane Lloyds.
It also mentioned other services nearby to replace those currently provided at the Hornchurch Lloyds branch, including the Post Office in North Street and the cash machine at the Halifax branch.
