The animal was found in the E11 3 postcode area on February 20 after he went missing three days earlier.
It is understood that the discovery of the animal was originally reported to Cats Protection Waltham Forest before it was escalated to police and the South London Animal Investigation Network (SLAIN).
In a statement online, Cats Protection Waltham Forest said: “We are aware of an incident in the Leytonstone, E11 3 area where a cat has been found deceased and mutilated.
“We are in contact with South London Animal Investigation Network (SLAIN) who have confirmed that they are investigating the incident as a suspected UK animal killer incident and will update us once they have more information.
“The cat has been identified and the incident has been reported to the police.”

The charity added that police had advised people in the area to keep their pets inside during the night.
A spokesperson for SLAIN confirmed to this paper that it will be releasing leaflets in search for witnesses and CCTV.
The Metropolitan Police have confirmed they are aware of the incident and are looking into it.
