The market, which will be run by The Food Market Company, will return on Sunday, April 6, in Cornmill Gardens.
The Food Market Company is the same family-run team behind the successful Catford Food Market and the popular weekly Food & Farmers’ Market at Beckenham Place Park.
The revival of this market has been made possible through funding from Lewisham Council, which commissioned its return and awarded the tender to The Food Market Company based on their vision for its future.
Charlotte and Will, the brother-sister duo behind The Food Market Company, have built a reputation for creating bustling, community-driven markets, filled with food, and a welcoming atmosphere.
They are now set to bring that same energy to Lewisham Food Market.
Visitors can expect a lineup of local food and drink traders with street food from around the globe, as well as sweet treats, honey, chutneys, and marinades.
Councillor Ese Erheriene, cabinet member for business, jobs, and skills, said: “I’m delighted to welcome back Lewisham Food Market.
“Markets play a crucial role in boosting our local economy, bringing communities together, supporting independent businesses, and making Lewisham an exciting destination to visit.
“Our vision is to grow an ambitious and inclusive local economy, and this market relaunch is a fantastic example of that vision in action.”
Charlotte, from The Food Company, said: “Having both grown up in South London, with me living in Lewisham for seven years, we have first-hand experience of what makes this part of London so special.
“Lewisham has developed so much over the years, and we felt it was the right time to relaunch Lewisham Food Market.
“The foundations built in 2023 were fantastic, and now, we want to take it even further in this amazing borough that’s so close to our hearts.”
One of the key missions of The Food Market Company is to support local entrepreneurs and provide a platform for new businesses to thrive.
Will, from The Food Company, said: “We’re so lucky to operate markets in South London, where diverse cultures shape every corner of our communities.
“Markets bring people together.
“They create jobs, support small businesses, and enhance the sense of community.
“We’re especially proud to have helped so many grassroots traders grow with us, with some even going on to open brick-and-mortar businesses.”
Lewisham Food Market launches on Sunday, April 6, from 10am to 3pm and will take place on the first Sunday of each month thereafter.
It is free to attend and dog-friendly.
