Larchwood Primary School, in Brentwood, has a fully operational catering room where pupils can get hands-on experience as part of their cookery lessons.
Every half term, each class gets the opportunity to cook in the kitchen, with cooking also featuring in the design and technology curriculum.

Headteacher Steve Bowsher said: “It is unusual to have a cooking room where you can get a whole class of children in there at the same time.
“This has been a part of our curriculum for a long time.
“It is about learning life skills.
“They are applying maths and science and following instructions – being able to follow a set of instructions is really important in English.
“Some of these children could potentially go on to become chefs – it is nice for them to be able to cook nice food and to want to be able to do that.”
