In recent years, Elba has been at the forefront of a UK-wide knife-crime campaign, recently bringing mass attention to the issue with his BBC documentary, Idris Elba: Our Knife Crime Crisis.
Following the actors’ work leading the campaign and working with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, it now seems that Labour have Elba at the top of its ‘wish list’ for its next City Hall candidate.
Labour wants Idris Elba to be the next London Mayor
As reported by The Sun, a senior Labour party source told the paper: “Idris has star appeal — but he is also a thoughtful political campaigner.
“Labour have a choice about who we choose to run in London.
“We can pick a Labour insider and try to make them famous.
“Or we can pick someone famous, aligned with Labour. Idris would be at the absolute top of our wish list.”
The actor, known for roles in Luthor and The Suicide Squad, was born and raised in Hackney, East London and still lives in the area.
