An 18-inch burst water main caused flooding to the streets between Leighton Road and Kentish Town High Street today (October 31) just after 7.30am.
As a result, the basements of a medical centre and ten residential properties were affected by floodwater nearly 1 metre deep.
Other properties including a pub and two shops were also flooded with up to 50cm of water.
Firefighters cordoned off the road as searches took place at the affected properties.
Crews rescued a man from a rear garden who was treated at the scene by a doctor.
Flood defence barriers, sand bags and pumps were used to divert the flood as Thames Water engineers worked on the “isolated burst.
During this time, people in NW1, NW3 and NW5 postcodes faced low pressure or no water.
However the water supplier has since said at 11am that all customers should now have water back at their taps.
A rest centre has been created for customers directly impacted by the burst.
Thames Water added: “Our specialist engineers are on site and have managed to successfully isolate the burst and we are now focused on carrying out the repair
“We’re now working closely with the emergency services to fully assess the site and make sure it’s safe for our teams to begin this.”
