At East London Coroner’s Court on Monday, October 27, an inquest was opened into the death of John Joseph Keogh.
Coroner’s officer Jean Smyth said Mr Keogh was a 69-year-old retired train driver who lived in Hornchurch.
At 6.53am on August 31, British Transport Police were called to reports of a person being struck by a London Underground train between Dagenham East and Upminster.
Officers attended the scene and Mr Keogh was pronounced dead at 7.28am.
A post-mortem examination conducted on September 8 gave Mr Keogh’s death as multiple severe traumatic injuries.
Area Coroner Nadia Persaud said that this was an unnatural death that would require her to open an inquest.
She asked Mr Keogh’s family to provide a background about the deceased, his mental health and any concerns they may have about his death.
A full inquest is scheduled for May next year.
