The plans are part of the Cycle Future Route 12 project, which aims to create a continuous cycling route on Ilderton Road.
The scheme, which covers the Ilderton Road area, will see the introduction of a segregated two-way cycle track on the north-west and western side of the road, running from a point 55 metres north-east of the junction with Old Kent Road to the junction with Hornshay Street.
Alongside the cycle track, several changes to parking, loading, and waiting restrictions will be made to accommodate the new infrastructure, according to the Public Notice Portal.
In Southwark, a 10-metre shared-use parking bay (permit holders and pay-by-phone) will be removed from the south side of Hornshay Street, within the existing Controlled Parking Zone ‘OKR’.
Existing double yellow lines will be amended in both Ilderton Road and Hornshay Street, with some sections relocated or reduced to allow for new crossings and build-outs
New double yellow lines with contiguous double kerb blips (indicating ‘at any time’ loading restrictions) will be added in various locations, including:
– Ilderton Road (both sides) between a point 11 metres south of the southern kerb-line of Manor Grove and a point 7.5 metres north-west of the north-western kerb-line of Hornshay Street (a combined total of approximately 112.5 metres), to accommodate the removal of an existing zebra crossing.
– Five metres on the north-west side, 97 metres north-east of the north-eastern kerb-line of the private road, Patterdale Road.
– A combined total of approximately nine metres added to either side of the unnamed access road to the Tustin Estate development.
– Ten metres added to the south side of Hornshay Street, 11.5 metres east of the eastern kerb-line of Ilderton Road (to replace removed parking).
In addition, new double kerb blips will be added to all existing double yellow lines in Ilderton Road (on both sides between a point 55 metres north-east of the north-eastern kerb-line of Old Kent Road and a point 11 metres south of the southern kerb-line of Manor Grove), with certain exceptions.
In Hornshay Street, new double kerb blips will be added on both sides between the north-eastern kerb-line of Ilderton Road and a point 34 metres north-east of that kerb-line.
An existing inset loading bay on the south-east side of Ilderton Road (16 metres in length, operating ‘at any time’ with a maximum stay of one hour and no return within two hours) will be formally added to the map-based schedule of the Traffic Management Orders, though no physical changes will be made at this location.
In Lewisham, a 5.5-metre shared-use parking bay (residents’ and pay-by-phone) will be removed from the south-west side of Hornshay Street, approximately 48.5 metres east of the north-eastern kerb-line of Ilderton Road.
This will be replaced by 5.5 metres of new double yellow lines with contiguous double kerb blips.
New double kerb blips will also be added to existing double yellow lines in Hornshay Street, between a point 34 metres east of the north-eastern kerb-line of Ilderton Road and a point nine metres south-west of the southern kerb-line of Lovelinch Close, with certain exceptions.
A new mandatory westbound cycle lane will be installed in the carriageway on the southern side of Hornshay Street, from a point 58 metres north-east of the north-eastern kerb-line of Ilderton Road to a point 30 metres north-east of that kerb-line.
Further changes include the installation of a new toucan crossing (for both pedestrians and cyclists) and a new raised zebra crossing on Ilderton Road, as well as the removal of an existing zebra crossing between Manor Grove and Hornshay Street.
Speed tables will be constructed at the sites of the new crossings and in the public highway section of Patterson Road and the unnamed access road to the Tustin Estate development.
Priority working will be introduced on Hornshay Street at a point 61.5 metres north-east of the north-eastern kerb-line of Ilderton Road, requiring westbound traffic to give way to eastbound vehicles.
