The Horniman at Hay’s, located in the historic Hay’s Galleria on the banks of the River Thames, has been shut since the New Year for the restoration work.
The pub, part of the Nicholson’s Pubs Collection, is famed for its ornate and unique style, and the refurbishment aimed to restore its historic features, upgrade the bars, and increase the seating capacity.
The Horniman at Hay’s, a former tea dealer’s warehouse, boasts a grand staircase, marble countertops, and an antique wall clock.
The new owners have ensured that the ground floor, mezzanine, and cellar bar have been fully redecorated while preserving the building’s historical elements.
The bar areas now sport a warmer appearance with deep blue and maroon paint, and a freshly sanded wooden floor.
The walls are decorated with pictures relating to the building’s history in the tea trade, and the ironmongery along the impressive staircase and banisters has been carefully restored.
The improvements extend to the bar areas where additional seating has been added, featuring more tables suited for groups, and extended counter space.
A full bar has been created upstairs in the mezzanine, allowing customers to place orders without going downstairs.
High benches have been installed, opening up the bar area for diners.
Booth seating in the main bar, upholstered in comfortable red leather, provides a more intimate setting for groups.
The pub now offers a wider selection of craft beers, including guest craft beers that rotate throughout the year.
It continues to serve a range of cask ales, including Nicholson’s Pale Ale brewed by St Austell Brewery in Cornwall.
The food menu features comforting pub classics, hand-crafted specialty pies, and a variety of sandwiches.
The Steak & Nicholson’s Pale Ale Pie, a gold award-winner at the British Pie Awards, and a new Chicken, Mushroom & Henry Weston’s Cider pie, are highlights.
The pub has a prime location overlooking the Thames, providing views of landmarks such as Tower Bridge, HMS Belfast, and the Tower of London.
The Horniman at Hay’s is located at Unit 26, Hay’s Galleria, London, SE1 2HD.
