Since its humble start in the 1940s when it was founded by brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald, the business has opened more than 41,000 restaurants in over 100 countries.
Best known for selling its range of burgers and chicken offerings, millions rely on McDonald’s every day to get a quick and cheap meal.
From the likes of the Big Mac, McChicken Sandwich, Chicken McNuggets, the McMuffins and the McFlurry range, McDonald’s has the ultimate selection of affordable comfort food.
Although the fast-food giant has a lengthy menu with practically something for everyone, some customers want more from the chain and seek to make their own ‘secret menu’.
Also known as ‘menu hacks’, a secret menu is a list of unofficial, off-menu items that customers can order at a restaurant by knowing about them.
The trend of secret menus began to rise in 2019 and has only grown more as customers look to create meals not on offer by chains.
McDonald’s has one of the biggest and most popular secret menus, as customers conjure up some of the oddest and tasty not-sold options.
Being the curious mind I am, I decided that I was the perfect candidate to try the not-so-secret menu to see if it’s as good as some claim it to be.
I tried McDonald’s secret menu – Here’s how you can order it
The McDonald’s secret menu has a wide range of items to choose from, but to save my heart, I only picked five to try.
The secret items I tested out were there: Apple Pie McFlurry, the ‘BCB’ Burger, the McChuck Yuppy, the Land, Sea and Air Burger and the Big Mac N Cheeseburger.

The Land, Sea and Air Burger
Starting off with arguably the weirdest option, the Land, Sea and Air Burger is made of a Big Mac, a Filet O Fish and a McChicken Sandwich.
Using the Big Mac as the base, I added the fish patty and the chicken patty to the beef burger to make the secret menu item.
From when I first saw this item, I knew it was going to be odd, but I didn’t expect it to be this odd.
The flavour balance was all over the place, the fish was so strong and overpowering that it drowned out the beef and chicken that made the burger just taste of fish.
It also fell into the category of sloppy mess, a Big Mac is hard enough to eat on its own without it falling apart, but the Land, Sea and Air Burger is a new level of mess.
I tasked anyone to try this burger without it falling apart; it’s nearly impossible.

The Big Mac N Cheeseburger
The Big Mac N Cheeseburger is something to get excited about, the simple item consists of a burger with no meat patty and is instead filled with cheese melts, creating a cheeseburger.
As a big cheese lover, I knew this burger would be up my street, but I think it may have opened a new McDonald’s favourite for me.
Cheese and bread are already one of the best combinations you can get, so having fried melted cheese in a bun is like heaven.
Perfectly melted with a toasted bun, it really makes you think, why wouldn’t McDonald’s want the Big Mac N Cheeseburger as a permanent menu item?

‘BCB’ Burger
The ‘BCB’ Burger is a simple and tasty meal made of a Big Mac and a McChicken Sandwich patty.
The concept of a burger made of both a chicken and beef patty sounds appealing, but the outcome is not as good as you would hope.
Its first hurdle was how messy and big it was; the amount of patty just made it a sloppy mess that just fell apart.
Despite its mess, the ‘BCB’ tasted good, largely because of how nice the beef and chicken already are.

The McChuck Yuppy
The McChuck Yuppy is one for the chicken lovers, made of a McChicken Sandwich and a Chicken Select, it’s the ultimate chicken burger.
Placing two Chicken Select tenders in the sandwich, you get the perfect blend of the crispy tenders with the patty’s flavours.
Some might find the McChuck Yuppy a bit too much, but if your go-to is chicken from McDonald’s, then you really should give it a go.
It might sound odd or like it’s too big a meal, but once you’ve had it once you’ll never want anything else.

Apple Pie McFlurry
Last but by far not least, the Apple Pie McFlurry is exactly what it sounds like, a McFlurry of your choice with an Apple Pie added.
The Apple Pie McFlurry is the best item I tried on the McDonald’s secret menu; it’s the same as eating a good apple pie with ice cream after a tasty Sunday Roast.
The pie’s hot temperature is perfectly cooled down by the ice cream, with the sweet and sour taste creating an explosion of flavour that I could only describe as the ultimate comfort.

Is it worth trying McDonald’s secret menu?
The McDonald’s secret menu could easily be pushed aside as a load of rubbish, and while at least two of the items are awful, the majority are great.
The McChuck Yuppy and the Big Mac N Cheeseburger are big treats that shouldn’t be enjoyed too often, but when you do, it’s worth every bite.
But the real star of the show is the Apple Pie McFlurry, which I think has become my new favourite McDonald’s item.
