A plume of smoke was seen rising from Southend Airport at about 4pm with reports coming in of a small aircraft being involved.
There have also been reports of multiple firefighter crews arriving to the incident to help the airport’s onsite team.
David Burton-Sampson, MP for Southend West and Leigh said: “I am aware of an incident at Southend Airport.
“Please keep away and allow the emergency services to do their work. My thoughts are with everyone involved.”
Southend Airport and Essex County Fire and Rescue have been contacted for comment.
