Dara Sayed Barham, 22, was found injured after being attacked outside Hounslow Muslim Centre in Hanworth Road on Sunday (June 22) at 2.20pm.
He was taken to hospital where he later died.
Two men, 27 and 37, were arrested on suspicion of murder on Monday (June 23) and remain in custody for questioning.
Police say that although the attack took place outside the prayer centre, there is nothing to suggest a link to the venue.
Dara is yet to be officially named as the victim by police, however he has been named by his best friend, according to a report from the Metro.
Police at Hounslow (Image: Robert White/PA Wire) Superintendent James Rawlinson from the local neighbourhood policing team, said: “We are aware of the effect this horrendous incident has had on the local community, and have designated officers on reassurance patrols, to answer questions that you may have.
“Residents will continue to see increased police presence whilst this investigation remains ongoing.
“I encourage anyone who has information but may not have contacted police yet to get in touch and assist with this investigation.”
He added: “As is stands, we maintain that though the incident took place outside the Hounslow Muslim Centre, there is nothing to suggest a link to the venue.
“Our thoughts, as always, remain with the family and friends of the victim at this incredibly difficult time.”
