The museum, open daily from 10am to 5.30pm, is offering a wide range of activities suitable for all age groups, including storytelling, crafting, animal robotics, and musical performances.
The museum’s gardens have different opening hours, which can be found on the Horniman website.
Visitors can explore the free World Gallery, Music Gallery, and Natural History Pop-up display in The Studio without advance booking.
However, the Natural History Gallery and Nature Base will remain closed for redevelopment until 2026 due to the museum’s Nature + Love project.
Tickets for the Aquarium, Butterfly House, and The Robot Zoo are recommended to be booked in advance, especially during weekends and school holidays.
Among the special events lined up is the Llama Library, which will feature author Holly Ryan and illustrator Ella Bailey.
They will provide insights into the creation of their llama-themed picture book, and kids can enjoy crafting their own llamas.
The sessions, suitable for ages four to eight, will take place on Wednesday, July 30, at 10am, 11.30am, 1.30pm, and 3pm.
Another attraction is the Animal Robotics workshop, where children aged five to eight can build their own battery-powered animal robots.
The workshop, inspired by the museum’s exhibition The Robot Zoo, will take place on Wednesday, August 6, and Monday, August 11, at 10am, 11.30am, 1.15pm, and 2.30pm.
Paul Cherrie will bring the vibrant rhythms of the steel pan to the Horniman Gardens on Thursday, August 14, from 3.30pm to 4pm, in time for Carnival season.
Visitors can expect a mix of classic calypso and steel pan versions of pop anthems.
On Saturday, August 16, from 1pm to 6pm, the museum will host Music Jerk ‘n Tings, a family-friendly celebration of Caribbean culture.
The event will feature a line-up of musical talent, a selection of dishes cooked by top chefs, and an arts and crafts market.
Studio TIP will host a creative workshop on Wednesday, August 20, at 10am, 11.15am, and 12.30pm.
Participants of all ages can use natural and recycled offcuts to assemble their mini sculptures or abstract creations.
Moesha Kellaway, a picture book creator, will take children aged four to eight into the world of ants on Thursday, August 28, at 10am, 11.30am, 1.30pm, and 3pm.
The event will feature a reading of Ant Life, a new instalment in the Misunderstood Minibeasts series, and a crafting session.
Regular activities include Family Craft Saturdays from 2pm to 4pm, where families can learn about the Horniman’s collections through crafting activities.
The sessions are free, drop-in, and suitable for ages three and above.
The nine-hole Mini Golf by UrbanCrazy is available on weekends, bank holidays, and school holidays until Sunday, August 31, from 10.30am to 5pm.
Hey Jukebox!, a changing playlist for the Music Gallery, will play on Tuesdays at 3.30pm.
Talks at the Horniman, led by Visitor Hosts, will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays at 11.30am.
The Robot Zoo exhibition, featuring larger-than-life animals recreated using machine parts and gadgets, will be open daily until Sunday, November 2, 2025, from 10am to 5.30pm.
The Butterfly House, Aquarium, and Natural History Pop-up display are open daily.

The Horniman Café is open daily from 9am to 5pm, offering a variety of meals, snacks, and drinks.
