The Metropolitan Police were alerted to the crash in Hornchurch Road at 11.36pm on April 26.
Officers were dispatched to the scene with London Ambulance Service colleagues, where a 35-year-old man was found suffering from serious injuries.
He was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.
His condition has been confirmed as life-threatening.
The crash is under investigation by detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, with enquiries underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the events.
A spokesperson for the Met said: “Police were called to Hornchurch Road RM11 at 23:36hrs on Saturday, 26 April following reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian.
“Officers attended the scene alongside the London Ambulance Service (LAS) who treated a 35-year-old man for serious injuries before taking him to hospital where he remains in a life-threatening [condition].
“Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are working to establish the circumstances.”
