This paper understands Home Store, in Market Place, will shut in around “two to three weeks”.
Signs have been spotted announcing a closing sale on the windows of the shop, which was formerly Debenhams.
When the Recorder asked to speak to a manager about the closure, we were told that no manager was present – but three staff members confirmed that the shop is set to close.

The closing down reductions only apply to Home Store items and not the furniture.
Home Store opened in the former Debenhams unit in Market Place in June 2024, replacing Aklu Plaza shopping centre – which occupied the site from 2022.
Aklu Miah, founder of the mall, put the shopping centre’s demise down to parking in Romford.
The unit’s history dates back to the 1860s, when it was home to Stone’s.
It then turned into Debenhams, the major department store, which closed in May 2021.
