The Crown in Highgate High Street has opened bookings for its brand new dining room, which is now open Wednesday to Saturday and at Sunday lunchtimes.
Until September 7 they are offering 50 per cent off food “in exchange for honest feedback”.
The kitchen is helmed by Charley Samuelson, former head chef of award-winning Hackney bakery Dusty Knuckle.
The bar snacks menu will be available downstairs at The Crown. (Image: The Crown) Her menu includes sweetcorn soup with handpicked crab and Calabrian chili butter; grilled prawns with fennel butter and confit lemon; slow cooked lamb shoulder with grilled baby leeks; and red mullet with beans, olives and aoli – with desserts including a plum Bakwell.
Diners can also enjoy bar snacks downstairs including Dusty Knuckle bread and butter and a cheeseburger.
In a post on Instagram this week the proudly independent pub wrote: “A couple of friendly faces this August Upstairs at The Crown 👑
Thank you for coming and warming our upstairs dining room!
We’ve loved our first week of dinner services and can’t wait for our first Sunday lunchtime.
Almost fully booked next week for 50% off all food! (Get booking for the last few slots!)”
The dining room features a giant chalkboard, panelled walls, sanded wood floors, and green paintwork to match the exterior of the pub and downstairs bar.
The free house is run by the Northern Union Pub Company which also owns The Albert in Primrose Hill, The Old White Bear in Hampstead, and The Haverstock Tavern in Belsize Park.
Originally known as The Rose and Crown, the pub shut down in 2012 and for many years operated as a Pain Quotidien cafe, before swapping croissants back to pints when it reopened in 2023 under its new name.
According to English Heritage, parts of the grade II listed building date back to the 18th century – possibly as early as the 1730s – while other parts are 19th century.
