Valerie Bello was presented with the Heritage Alliance’s Heritage Hero Lifetime Award as co-ordinator at B’nai B’rith UK foundation in Golders Green.
She received it at the annual Heritage Day at the Tower of London for her 25 years of promoting the charity’s European Days of Jewish Culture and Heritage.
“This is a tribute to our heritage activities,” Valerie said. “We have volunteers who co-ordinate the annual European Day with guided tours, walks, exhibitions, lectures and events.”
Jewish heritage days were started by B’nai B’rith 25 years ago, and are now part of the Council of Europe’s ‘Common Heritage’ programme. The name B’nai B’rith translates from the Hebrew as ‘Children of the Covenant’ referring to the covenant with Abraham.
The Heritage Alliance brings 200 organisations like B’nai B’rith together, from caring for historic rural sites to boat restoration or fundraising for community archaeology.
