The upcoming year will see a wide variety of developments across Havering.
Below is a list of major projects to look out for in the borough over the next 12 months. The proposals include the delivery of schemes which have previously been approved by the council as well as other developments which are likely to progress further.
Further details on the planning applications mentioned can be found on the authority’s website.
New homes at hospital site
In August, developer Bellway London was granted permission in August to build 96 homes at the site of the former Harold Wood Hospital.
Named The Comptons, work on the scheme is expected to start in May.
The 2.8-acre site off Copse Avenue will feature 74 homes for private sale, including a mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments alongside three and four-bedroom houses.
There will also be 22 ‘affordable’ apartments available for low-cost rent.
Romford Masterplan
The Romford Masterplan is set to be finalised and submitted for adoption early this year.
The council consulted on the draft planning policy document for six weeks towards the end of last year.
It seeks to “guide” future development in Romford, laying out ambitions to boost the town centre economy and encourage sustainable growth.
Proposals include re-naturalising the River Rom, removing car parking from Market Place, and creating a “network” of walking and cycling routes, particularly across the ring road.
Industrial estate regeneration
More than 1,000 new homes are planned for the Bridge Close industrial area close to Romford station.
A primary school and health services will also be provided as part of the scheme, with construction expected to start this summer, subject to planning approval.
All new homes will be delivered by 2030 on current timelines, and the council has promised to offer these to local people first.
Harold Hill town centre
Construction on two new developments in Harold Hill is expected to begin later this year.
The first, which has already received planning approval, will see 138 ‘affordable’ homes built in four new blocks in Chippenham Road.
A further 478 new homes have also been proposed for Harold Hill town centre, in Farnham Road and Hilldene Road. Planning approval is expected in the summer ahead of a winter start date for works.
Both developments form part of the council’s 12 sites programme which seeks to deliver more than 3,500 homes across 12 existing housing areas in the borough.
