The council has launched a consultation aimed at simplifying the scheme while still providing assistance to the most vulnerable residents.
A council spokesperson said: “This is an opportunity for you to shape the future of a programme that impacts thousands of households.
“We understand that navigating the current system can be complicated and frustrating.
“That’s why we’re proposing changes to simplify the process, making it more transparent and fairer for everyone.”
The council believes that the community’s feedback will be instrumental in ensuring the support reaches those who need it most, while also making the delivery process more efficient.
The spokesperson added: “I encourage all residents to take part in this consultation on our Local Council Tax Support scheme.
“Together, we can create a system that works better for our community.”
Residents can submit their feedback online.
The consultation will end on January 9, 2025.
For any further questions or comments, residents are encouraged to reach out to the Local Council Tax Support team at ltcs-consultation@royalgreenwich.gov.uk.
From November 13, paper copies of the consultation will be available at various locations across the borough.
These include Abbey Wood Library, Charlton Library, and the Eltham Centre, among others.
Additionally, copies will also be available at community centres such as Abbey Wood Community Centre, the Clockhouse Community Centre, and the Middle Park Community Centre.
Leisure centres including Coldharbour Leisure Centre, the Thamesmere Leisure Centre, and the Waterfront Leisure Centre will also stock the paper copies.
Other libraries and community centres including Blackheath Library, New Eltham Library, and Woolwich Common Community Centre will also have these available.
The full list of locations where the paper copies can be accessed is available on the Royal Borough of Greenwich’s website.
This consultation provides an opportunity for residents to have their say and influence the future of a programme that affects thousands of households.
The changes being proposed are aimed at ensuring the support scheme is as efficient and effective as possible, providing assistance to those who need it most while being easy to understand and navigate.
The council is urging all residents to take part and help shape the future of the Council Tax Support Scheme.
