Harold Court Primary School, in Church Road, has proposed opening a nursery in September for three- and four-year-olds.
If it goes ahead, the nursery will be situated next to the main school building, where Aardvark Day Nursery and Pre-School was once based – however the original building would be demolished and replaced by a new modular unit.
The closure of the independent day nursery last year has led to a “shortfall” of available places in the area, the school says.

Wendy Donnelly-Symes, acting headteacher, said the school is seeking planning permission for the demolition of the current nursery building due to it being “in need of repair”.
Ms Donnelly-Symes promised that the new modular unit will be of a similar size to the existing structure, as the school hopes to make “full use of the existing space”.
“It is an ambitious and exciting project to undertake and we believe that it will enhance not only the educational offerings at Harold Court Primary School, but also contribute positively to the aesthetic of Church Road,” Ms Donnelly-Symes said.
“By establishing our own nursery, we aim to provide children from within the Harold Court community with activities, resources and a quality start to their educational journey.”
Ms Donnelly-Symes added that the children would have access to structured play and learning sessions, which will enable to them to “transition smoothly” into primary school.
The school also hopes that the nursery provision will support parents who wish to return to work, and provide the community with additional employment opportunities.
A consultation on the proposal has been launched by the school, collecting views of parents, staff and residents until March 24.
A separate consultation will take place later as part of the usual planning process, to consider the build and design of the new unit.
Havering Council is expected to make a decision on the proposals by June.
Ms Donnelly-Symes said: “Throughout the consultation and building period, we aim to be transparent about our intentions and ensure open communication with our neighbours throughout this process.
“We are confident that the proposed changes will not significantly impact the daily lives of local residents, and we are committed to minimising any disruption during the demolition and building process.”
