Harold Court Primary School in Church Road has submitted a planning application to Havering Council to bulldoze a former nursery and construct a “new modular building to be used as nursery unit”.
A consultation on the proposal was launched by the school, collecting views of parents, staff and residents which concluded last month.
According to the planning statement validated on March 21, the school is “seeking to open a 30 place nursery provision for 3-4-year-olds”.
“In order to establish a nursery, we would require the demolition of the existing children’s centre.”
If it goes ahead, the nursery will be situated next to the main school building, where Aardvark Day Nursery and Pre-School was once based.

The current building has been deemed as “end of life” due to unsafe structures beneath ground level.
The school has proposed that this building is demolished and a new refurbished nursery unit replaces it.
In the application form, the building is described as being in “disrepair with black mould and significant damp on the fascias and brick cladding”.
Wendy Donnelly-Symes, acting headteacher, said last month: “It is an ambitious and exciting project to undertake and we believe that it will enhance not only the educational offerings at Harold Court Primary School, but also contribute positively to the aesthetic of Church Road.
“By establishing our own nursery, we aim to provide children from within the Harold Court community with activities, resources and a quality start to their educational journey.”
A decision is expected to be made by Havering Council by May 16.
Ms Donnelly-Symes said: “Throughout the consultation and building period, we aim to be transparent about our intentions and ensure open communication with our neighbours throughout this process.
“We are confident that the proposed changes will not significantly impact the daily lives of local residents, and we are committed to minimising any disruption during the demolition and building process.”
