Harlow Chorus will perform Gioachino Rossini’s Petite Messe Solonnelle at St John’s Church in Epping on Saturday, November 1, marking both the start of its golden jubilee season and the first concert under new musical director, James Morley.
Mr Morley said: “I wanted to start my tenure with the choir – and its 50th season – with a bang, and Rossini’s piece does just that.”
The work features arias performed by recent graduates from London’s Guildhall School of Music.
The concert will be accompanied by two grand pianos and a harmonium.
Mr Morley said: “You get the full force of a chorus in fine voice singing some barnstorming and, frankly, slightly bonkers choruses – quite the spectacle.”
Originally composed for salon performance in 1863, Rossini’s mass blends sacred themes with operatic flair.
It has been widely praised since its debut.
This concert marks the beginning of a year-long programme, which will conclude with a 50th birthday performance at Saffron Hall next July.
The concert begins at 7.30pm.
Tickets are £15, or £5 for under-18s.
Bookings can be made through Ticketsource.
