Haringey to extend Holiday Activities and Food scheme

The government has announced a £600 million investment across the UK to continue this scheme, which provides support to families and promotes children’s health, learning, and wellbeing.

The HAF programme offers free places at holiday camps, exciting family outings, and nutritious meals during the Easter, summer, and winter school breaks.

The scheme is open to children aged 5 to 16 who are eligible for free school meals and provides a safe, inclusive environment for young people to make new friends and try new activities.

This summer, Haringey allocated more than £500,000 to 26 local providers, helping create 1,175 activity spaces each day.

Councillor Zena Brabazon, cabinet member for children, schools, and families, said: “We’re immensely proud of the difference the HAF programme continues to make across our community.

“With fresh government funding and the backing of our fantastic local partners, we’re now in a stronger position to reach even more families – making sure every child can enjoy enriching activities and healthy meals throughout the school holidays.

“This joint effort reflects our unwavering commitment to nurturing the wellbeing, growth, and potential of every young person in Haringey.”

The HAF programme helps boost academic progress, encourages social development, and builds confidence in children.

By catering to the needs of children and families, the HAF programme aims to reduce the financial burden on families and ensure that every child has the opportunity to enjoy fun activities and healthy meals during the school holidays.
