Haringey community members joined council representatives at George Meehan House to commemorate the day, with the Red Ensign being raised by deputy mayor Cllr Michelle Simmons-Safo.
Cllr Simmons-Safo was accompanied by council leader Cllr Peray Ahmet, the borough’s deputy lieutenant, Captain Peter Baker RNR, RD, ward councillors, and community leaders from the Haringey Multi-Faith Forum.

A ceremony was held at George Meehan House (Image: Haringey Council) This year marks the tenth anniversary of The Seafarers’ Charity’s Fly the Red Ensign campaign, which strives to raise awareness about the contributions of merchant seafarers.
