The Telegraph has compiled a list of top areas across the 32 boroughs which are the most desirable for families seeking a new property.
Teaming up with estate agency Hamptons and other local agents they came up with neighbourhoods which have retained a distinct identity and character – with many sharing village-like features such as a central green or high street with independent shops.

Leafy suburban areas top the list – with Richmond on Thames first, followed by Marylebone, and Hampstead in third place.
Hamptons say house prices have held up in places which offer a community vibe with good schools, open spaces and a reasonable commute.
With its stunning collection of Georgian and Victorian homes, and easy access to the 790 acres of the Heath, Hampstead has an average property price of £1.3 million.

Its winding historic streets have drawn many celebrities from Ricky Gervais to Helena Bonham Carter, Harry Styles and even Hollywood star Ryan Gosling.
The area has more than its share of plaques to the famous artists and writers who have made Hampstead their home over the years and its fascinating history can be explored in museums such as Keats House, Burgh House, Kenwood House, and Fenton House.
Just off the High Street the likes of Church Row, Downshire Hill, Flask Walk and Well Walk are among the prettiest streets while cosy pubs include The Freemasons, Holly Bush, Wells Tavern and The Flask.

For families the area has a range of state schools and independent schools and no less than three theatres including the Well Walk puppet theatre and a brand new venture the Circle & Star above The Horseshoe pub.
It also has an annual summer festival held at Keats House and the Big Fair takeover of Heath Street.
Regular exhibitions and concerts take place at Burgh House and the Heath Street Baptist Church, and The Hampstead Music Festival has just made a comeback after several fallow years.
