The days are getting longer and the weather is getting warmer – it’s time to blow away the cobwebs and head out in the fresh air!
Camden has arguably some of the best parks in the capital, so wherever you are you are not far from a good walk.
Here are four of the best places.
Hampstead Heath
Managed by the City of London Corporation, the 1,792 acres of the Heath are perfect for rambling, walking and even wild swimming.
It offers panoramic views across the city from Parliament Hill and idyllic trails through trees and woods.
The stately home of Kenwood House can be accessed from Hampstead Heath, which is run by English Heritage and has a beautiful garden and a café.
Waterlow Park
Waterlow Park was once the private estate of Sydney Waterlow, who in 1889 presented the land to London County Council, designating the area as “a garden for the gardenless”.
Fully refurbished in 2005, it contains a kitchen garden, orchard, children’s play area and many open spaces.
Regents Park
Regent’s Park is one of the royal parks and is home to London’s largest collection of outdoor sports pitches, Britain’s oldest outdoor theatre and the world’s oldest scientific zoo.
Occupying 410 acres, get lost in the rose garden or go boating on the lake.
Primrose Hill
Primrose Hill, with its iconic skyline view, was purchased from Eton College in 1841 to extend the parkland available to the poor people of north London for open-air recreation.
At one time this was a place where duels were fought and prize-fights took place.
These days people walk up to one of its six viewpoints at the top of the hill to watch November 5 fireworks or the city’s New Year fireworks.
Other times it’s great to just laze with friends or a good book.
