Officers from the Metropolitan Police were called at 6.46pm on January 5 with reports of a domestic incident in Hailsham Road.
Local officers who were initially sent to the scene were later joined by specialist firearms units after threats were allegedly made.
Colleagues from the London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service were also dispatched to the scene.
Negotiations were held that resulted in the man surrendering himself to police.
He was then arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, threats to kill, and assault on police.
He has been taken to a hospital for a mental health assessment where he remains.

A second man from the address was treated for injuries and taken to hospital.
A Met spokesperson has confirmed that it was “an isolated incident”.
London Fire Brigade crews were called to the road at 7.02pm and were stood down at 9.31pm.
