The fire broke out in a first-floor flat on Institute Place on Sunday (April 13) at about 8pm.
Firefighters from multiple stations, including Stoke Newington and Bethnal Green, controlled the situation by 8.55pm.
No injuries were reported.
The cause is under investigation.
Traffic disruptions are expected as fire crews remain on the scene.
The fire was in a five-floor residential block.
A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade said: “Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters responded to a fire on Institute Place, Hackney.
“The fire was located in a first floor flat, in a residential block of five floors. Traffic in the surrounding area will be impacted as crews remain on scene. There are no reports of any injuries.
“The Brigade was first called about the incident at 7.59pm, and Control Officers mobilised crews from Stoke Newington, Bethnal Green, Homerton and surrounding fire stations to the scene.
“Firefighters had the incident under control by 8.55pm.
“The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade’s Fire Investigation Team.”
