Police were alerted to the situation when the suspect aged in his 50s attended a police station around 10am yesterday (March 3).
The man was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.
Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended a home in Homerton Road where they found the body of a man, believed to be in his 60s.
Work in underway to find and inform the victim’s next of kin.
The police believe the men knew each other and nobody else is being sought in connection with the incident while enquiries are ongoing.
Acting Chief Superintendent Brigid Beehag-Fisher, responsible for policing in Hackney and Tower Hamlets, said: “I know this will be distressing for local residents as well as the wider community.
“There will be increased policing presence in and around the location in the coming days.
