After last year’s success, the running support programme returns, aiming to support 50 participants to complete the Hackney Half Marathon.
Applications are open until Wednesday, January 14.
Motiv Sports, who organise the Hackney Half, created The Hackney Academy initiative as part of its wider community-focused programme which aims to increase local participation.
The Hackney Academy offers a free running programme targeting Hackney locals new to running or returning after a break.
Participants receive expert coaching, a running kit, and free entry into the sold-out Hackney Half Marathon on Sunday, May 17, 2026.
The initiative, which runs over 12 weekly sessions, is designed to build confidence, foster friendships, and ensure race-day readiness.
To be eligible to apply, you must be 18 years or older and a resident of Hackney or a nearby borough.
You must also be able to attend at least ten of the 12 sessions.
Last year, the Hackney Academy had 30 participants who completed the 13-mile challenge, highlighting the effectiveness of the programme.
Beyond the half marathon, Hackney Moves celebrates fitness and the Hackney area across a full weekend festival.
Last year, more than 25,000 people raced, with an overall turnout of 60,000 in Hackney Marshes.
