Plans for a lawful development certificate to change the use of an empty shop to a restaurant were submitted on August 9 by agent Planit Studio on behalf of applicant Ferdous Bhuiyan.
Barking and Dagenham Council approved these plans on Thursday, October 2.
According to planning documents, 693 Green Lane is an empty shopping unit that has been vacant for several months.
Its last known use according to a document was “as a small retail store”.
The building can last be seen in operation in September 2024 as Brittania, an Asian grocery and snack store and takeaway.
Planit Studio submitted a supporting statement where it said the proposed restaurant will “bring the unit back into active use” and “contribute to the vitality of the local parade”.

The site comprises the ground floor of a mid-terrace commercial unit within a three-storey building, with residential accommodation above.
It fronts directly onto Green Lane, a “mixed use street containing a wide range of commercial uses including grocery shops, cafés, takeaways, hair salons, and other services”.
The surrounding area is characterised by “active ground floor frontages” with varied use classes, including retail, restaurants and cafés and professional services.
There is no information on what type of restaurant it may become but a document confirms it will sell hot and cold food for consumption on the premises.
It will also have associated seating, a kitchen and a disabled toilet.
Documents also confirm the site is “well served” by public transport, with multiple bus routes running along Green Lane and the nearest stop within around 30 metres of the property.
The proposed operating hours are 7am to midnight on Mondays to Fridays and 8am to midnight on Saturdays and Sundays.
These hours were deemed “consistent with neighbouring commercial premises and appropriate for a local high street location” in a planning document.
