Emergency services were called to Rayleigh railway station in Essex today (November 7) at 5am after the incident.
The person was pronounced dead at the scene and the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
All lines between Southend Victoria and Wickford were closed, with Greater Anglia trains between Southend Victoria and Liverpool Street in London cancelled.
Hours later, emergency services have completed their work and the lines have since reopened.
At the time of reporting, service is still recovering with disruption expected to last until 10am.
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to a report of a casualty on the tracks just after 5am today (7 November) near Rayleigh railway station.
“The incident is not thought to be suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
