In April 2025, Fluent Architectural Design Services applied to Sutton Council to turn Grantley Court Nursing Home on 22 York Road into a building containing eight self-contained flats.
Grantley Court Nursing Home closed in December 2014 after an inspection found “significant failings in safety and quality of care”.
If approved, the old care home would be converted into eight flats, while the outbuildings at the back would be demolished to make way for a new single-storey house with loft rooms.
The plans also include moving one wall to allow side access, changing some windows, adding solar panels, removing the rear ramp, and installing bin stores at the front.
Part of the rear roof would be raised, and parking, landscaping, and a cycle store would be added.
The proposed development is designed to keep the existing two-storey building mostly as it is, with very limited changes to the outside.
The new single-storey house would sit at the back of the garden and would not be visible from the street.
It would be smaller than the main building and appear as a supporting structure.
After advice during the pre-application stage, the amount of paved area on the site has been reduced, and the front landscaping has been improved.
The development is expected to have no negative impact on the character of the site or the surrounding area.
A PTAL rating measures how easily a location can be reached using public transport.
Ratings range from 1 (lowest) to 6 (highest), so a score of 1a means the site has very poor access to buses, trains, or the Underground.
The Sutton Council Planning Committee will meet next Wednesday (September 3) to discuss the application.
They can choose to approve it, approve it with conditions, or refuse it altogether.
A decision will be made no later than September 8.
