Barking & Dagenham Council has approved plans for a new library at Grafton Primary School, in Grafton Road.
The planning application, submitted on July 2, details that the library will be located in a single-storey extension to the main school building, on what is currently a section of the playground.
According to the design and access statement, a small playground bench is the only item that will need to be removed from the area to accommodate the extension.

The library is set for dedicated areas for studying, reading and book check-outs, while also housing a meeting area.
The extension will have a lightweight timber frame, as well as a sloped roof to allow for rainwater drainage and to maintain clear sightlines across the playground.
In the design and access statement, Grafton Primary School said: “Our aim is to create a more flexible and inviting space that will encourage a love of reading and improves learning for the children.
“The new extension will function as a modern, purpose-built library and meeting area, expanding the school’s facilities.”
Works are expected to start on the extension in October and finish by April 2026.
