Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Elke Büdenbender visited Bobby Moore Academy in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on Thursday, December 4.
Also in attendance were footballers Georgia Stanway, Kai Havertz and Shekiera Martinez, who spoke with the president and first lady about the UK and Germany’s sporting relationship and the role of clubs in supporting young people.

Sarah Donnelly, principal at Bobby Moore Academy, said: “We are delighted to have played a part in the state visit by welcoming the president and first lady.
“The visit highlighted the importance of sport and all enrichment opportunities for young people and it was an excellent opportunity to celebrate our scholars’ many brilliant successes.”
During the visit, the president and first lady met senior leaders from the school, David Ross Education Trust, which runs it, the Olympic Park and London Legacy Development Corporation.
They also spoke with students, including Cairo-Evea Antoine, who plays for Arsenal’s youth academy and spoke with the president about her experience playing for the England U-17s Lionesses.
