Essex & Suffolk Water has confirmed it is “revising” parts of its works schedule for the Gallows Corner junction in order to overcome “engineering challenges”.
This change will allow the company to complete the third and final water main diversion without the need for a drilling process.
It did not confirm whether this would delay the completion of the project, however TfL told the Recorder that the works are “still on schedule” to finish in September.
A spokesperson for Essex and Suffolk Water also said progress continues on elements not affected by the revision.

The spokesperson said: “While we work to reduce the risk of such impacts on our programme, they can happen on projects of this scale and our team are using their experience and skills to minimise the impact of this change.
“We are working with all parties and partners across the wider Gallows Corner project to ensure we deliver this work safely, and with as little disruption as possible, while also aligning closely with the wider works.
“We will be working to ensure all relevant parties are updated as we progress.”
At the same time as TfL’s renewal of the Gallows Corner flyover, Essex & Suffolk Water have been working to replace water pipes running underneath the roundabout.
This has involved 24-hour drilling from one side of the flyover to the other, and aims to “reduce the risk of future bursts in our network”, a spokesperson previously told this paper.
