Five watering holes reopened to customers with a new look, debuting new changes to bars, seating areas and much more.
1. The Albion, Rainham
Located in Rainham Road, this Flaming Grill pub reopened after a six-figure refurbishment.
It closed in January and welcomed customers back to its bar on February 3.

2. The Ardleigh, Hornchurch
This pub in Ardleigh Green Road underwent a near three-week closure to allow for the refurbishment.
It closed to customers on August 19 and reopened on September 6.
The bar was one of the areas of focus during the refurbishment (Image: Picture 55) The pub is part of the Ember Inns chain, with the works carried out to give the space a “brighter, more contemporary aesthetic” according to a spokesperson.
Changes included a refreshed bar, new seating, and a larger dining space.
3. The Thatched House, Upminster
This historic pub can be found in St Mary’s Lane.
It welcomed customers back to its refreshed venue in May last year after temporarily closing for the works.
The pub has historic roots (Image: Craig @SeaAitch Photography) Since the change, pub chain Vintage Inns has revealed that customers have been enjoying its beer garden, additional seating and improved lighting.
4. Yates, Romford
A Craft Union Pub Company site in Romford’s South Street was among those given an updated look last year, reopening on March 12.
The chain called the revamp a “revitalising transformation”, which included a pool table, new entertainment and a wider selection of products.
A wider range of products were introduced along with the revamp (Image: Craft Union Pub Company) New operator Eliza Griva told this paper that she was also bringing new ideas, with raffle events, student nights and LQBTQIA+ nights too keep the space a community hub.
5. The Moon & Stars, Romford
A Wetherspoons pub made it onto the list of those given a makeover.

This pub can be found in South Street, and was closed from July 1 as a result of extensive refurbishment works, including structural changes.
The pub’s reopening was pushed back by months (Image: Charlotte Anderson) The reopening was delayed by nearly three months, with the initial estimated date of July 30 scrapped.
Pillars in the venue were reduced in width to make more floor space, new gambling machines were installed, and the roof terrace was also included in changes.
