A 2012 report from Essex Ghost Hunters claimed the presence of a little girl was “immediately picked up” during an investigation in the surrounding area of Tithe Barn, in Hall Lane.
A “large figure in the corner of the barn” was supposedly seen along with visible orbs, tapping noises and stones being thrown.
Near the end of the investigation, the group claims the presence of a woman was picked up – perhaps the ‘Woman in White’ which legend says haunts the building.
An “extremely loud bang” was also supposedly heard by the group moments before the investigation was wrapped up.

In 2014 Brookside Theatre in Eastern Road made national TV after CCTV footage appeared to show a table and chair moving on their own at around 4am only hours after a psychic finished his show there.
That evening, the theatre had hosted medium Roy Roberts.
Jai Sepple ran the theatre at the time and told MailOnline: “There have been several things that have happened in the past, noises and creeks etc, but we’ve got used to it.
“We’ve had a child’s footprints in the foyer, and one cast member said he saw a strange figure once.”

In 2020, the Recorder accompanied the Essex Paranormal Society to one of their seances in the building although no spooky activity was recorded.
A previous seance member, however, said they caught a child ghost on camera and someone going through their pockets.

He also claimed the group all felt the “same feeling of sombre at another specific location”.
Nearby pub The Good Intent is also rumoured to be home to ghosts and was frequently visited by RAF soldiers during WW2.
