Two fire engines crashed at the junction of Farringdon Road and Clerkenwell Road on Saturday (January 3) at 10.17pm.
The vehicles had broken wind screens and one had its roof caved in, while a traffic light also appeared to be damaged.
Road closures were in place for hours until the scene was cleared by 3.45am on Sunday (January 4).
Medics arrived at the scene and six firefighters were taken to hospital.
Metropolitan Police officers are reportedly investigating the incident.
Pat Goulbourne, assistant commissioner for the London Fire Brigade, said: “At around 2217 on 3 January 2026, a fire engine was involved in a collision with another fire engine at the junction of Farringdon Road on Clerkenwell Road.
“Six crew members were involved in the collision and were taken to hospital for checks by the London Ambulance Service.
“The fire engines were both responding to an incident in Islington, which has been resolved.
“The circumstances surrounding the collision are under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.”
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: ‘We were called at 10.09pm on Saturday, 3 January, to reports of a road traffic collision at the junction of Farringdon Road and Clerkenwell Road, EC1M.
“We sent resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, advanced paramedics, an incident response officer and paramedics from our hazardous area response team (HART).
“We treated six patients and took them to hospital.”
