Essex Therapy Dogs was named 1 Million Minutes Volunteer Champion 2025, in recognition of its outstanding contribution to tackling loneliness and improving wellbeing.
Founder Tina Jullings and volunteer Lorraine appeared on the ITV breakfast programme where they were presented with the award in front of a national audience.
The award was presented by Graeme Hall – who is known as The Dogfather and one of the UK’s most respected dog behaviourists
Ms Jullings said: “We were completely overwhelmed.
“To be recognised in this way was incredible, but to have the award presented by Graeme Hall made it even more special.
“He understands better than most the powerful bond between dogs and people, so it meant a huge amount to us.”
The moment came as a complete surprise to the team and marked a very special milestone for the charity.
Ms Jullings added: “This award belongs to every single one of our volunteers and their amazing dogs.
“It was an unexpected and emotional moment for all of us, and a proud day for Essex Therapy Dogs.”
The charity is run entirely by volunteers. Its specially assessed dogs visit schools, care homes, hospitals, and community groups throughout Essex.
Their work aims to reduce loneliness and improve wellbeing through the companionship and comfort that therapy dogs offer.
The 1 Million Minutes campaign highlights the importance of volunteering and the difference it can make to individuals and communities.
Essex Therapy Dogs hopes the recognition will inspire others to get involved and support its mission.
It is now encouraging more dog owners in Essex to consider volunteering.
Ms Jullings added: “If you have a friendly, calm dog and some time to give, we would love to hear from you.
“Volunteering with Essex Therapy Dogs is a rewarding way to bring comfort, connection and joy to people who need it most.”
