Essex Police stopped a man in Running Waters, Brentwood, on Friday (January 2) after the car he was driving was flagged as having no insurance.
During the stop, shortly after 1pm, the man provided false details and refused to carry out a roadside drink and drugs test.
Officers then arrested the man and searched the vehicle – discovering 41 bags of suspected Class A drugs.
The man from London, aged 61, remains in custody being questioned on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, driving otherwise in accordance with a licence, driving without insurance and failing to provide a specimen.
Chief Inspector Jennifer Bliss, of Essex Police’s operational policing command, said: “Criminal use of our roads is unfortunately something we continue to see – and that’s why our roads officers play such a critical role in tackling those who cause harm in our communities, whether that is through driving behaviour or wider criminality.”
