A man has been jailed after beating his friend to death at his own home in Charlton.
Radoslaw Brzezicki, 42, of Erwood Road, has been sentenced to 10 years at Isleworth Crown Court.
He was convicted of manslaughter on June 25 over the death of 60-year-old Robert Dlugosz.
The attack happened on November 22, 2023, after an argument at Mr Dlugosz’s home in Erwood Road.
A woman in her 40s was also assaulted during the incident.
Officers arrived at the scene after the woman called police, saying she had fled the house after being attacked alongside Mr Dlugosz.
The first responding officer found Mr Dlugosz, alive but badly injured.
Using a translation app, the officer was able to speak to the Polish-speaking victim and get a brief account of what happened.
Mr Dlugosz said he had been beaten and identified Brzezicki as the attacker.
He collapsed shortly after giving this account.
Paramedics took him to hospital, but despite emergency surgery, he died on November 25.
A post-mortem examination found he died from a traumatic brain injury.
The woman’s account of the attack matched Mr Dlugosz’s.
She managed to escape the property and told a passerby of the attack, who called police.
Brzezicki was arrested shortly after Mr Dlugosz collapsed.
Detective Chief Inspector Samantha Townsend, from Specialist Crime South, and who led the investigation said: “We hope that this sentence will provide some closure to Mr Dlugosz’s family and friends.
“I would once again like to pay tribute to the surviving victim in this case, whose evidence proved essential to securing a conviction and lengthy prison sentence for Brzezicki.”
