The “large” group was reported to police as travelling through the High Street on Saturday (March 8) around 7.20pm.
A police helicopter and armed officers responded following reports the group had weapons and was causing public disorder.
Despite the reports, no weapons were found by the police after “full and thorough searches”.
This included ground searches, talking with local shops and using CCTV.
A dispersal order is in place, but the police have not specified its duration at this stage.
A 17-year-old boy has been arrested for assaulting an emergency worker and not giving his details under Section 50 of the dispersal order.
Borough Commander, Inspector Tommy Pearson, said: “We will always take reports of threats of violence seriously.
“It is concerning that there were reports of weapons, however, I would like to reassure the public that, following full and thorough searches, no weapons were located.
“Dispersal orders are a valuable tool in policing which help us to ensure the local community feel safe.”
The police have asked that any video footage or information that could help with enquiries be provided quoting PR\45250027826.
