Epping Forest District Council and its in-house company Terra Verde Services Ltd (TVS) are using the upgraded equipment to tackle the seasonal build-up of fallen leaves and keep streets clean and safe.
The expanded fleet now includes four large mechanical sweepers, two smaller sweepers, and eight leaf blowers.

Councillor Ray Balcombe, contracts delivery and deputy leader at Epping Forest District Council, said: “We do not have to offer this service, as it is not a statutory requirement, but despite the severe financial challenges we are faced with, we know our residents value a clean and well-kept street.
“Our street cleansing team will be working hard across the district over the coming months, keeping our streets and footpaths clean and safe for everyone – we want people to feel proud of where they live, and our leaf clearance service plays a small but important role in that.”

Crews can walk up to seven miles a day and mechanical sweepers can cover up to 50 miles daily.
The council has also introduced a Kersten UBS Hydro II weed ripper to replace manual hoeing and improve weed removal.
Residents can request a sweep or report issues online if leaves build up in their street.
