Moonstone Rescue, a non-profit organisation which looks out for animal welfare, claims that 15 fox dens were found with “no signs of life” at the 18-hole course.
It claims that both adult and cubs could have possibly been targeted as “bodies of either have not been found, suggesting they have been removed”.
Trees marked with white arrows pointing to the empty fox dens have been spotted in the area, as the animal rescue called this a “massacre”.
According to a report in the Metro, people living near the course reported hearing gunshots late last Wednesday (April 26) and in the early morning of the following day.
Enfield Golf Club has called the reports a “poor decision” by internal management.
It shared on its social media: “Enfield Golf Club unreservedly apologises to infield residents following a recent incident on the course concerning foxes.
“We can assure the community that this was an incredibly poor decision by internal management to allow an external group to conduct an unauthorised culling.
“This was not sanctioned by the Club Committee. The Club and its members are extremely disappointed that this happened and can guarantee it will never happen again.
“We are a club that supports the local community and provides an excellent place for all, we are saddened by these events and regret any distress this has caused in our local community.”
