Eco pizzeria, which is known for its sourdough pizzas, has announced it will be opening in September for locals to have a taste of London’s finest.
Originally opening in Brixton in 1989, the pizzeria also has a site in Clapham.
The Cheam restaurant is located in a former 1930s Sainsbury’s building and retains original features, including mosaic floors and tiles.

These historical elements are complemented by modern touches.
The restaurant also pays visual tribute to various figures and scenes in its décor.
Images of comedian Tony Hancock, who put Cheam on the map with his BBC radio show, adorn the walls.
There are also portraits of former residents Archdale Palmer James Killick, and John and Jane Dee.
Adding to the blend of influences, the Wasif family’s Egyptian heritage is reflected in scenes of daily life, which sit alongside hunting scenes from Nonsuch Palace and maps of Italy, Egypt, and London.
Eco Cheam aims to offer more than just a dining space; it intends to serve as a living gallery of stories.
The founders, Sami and the late Laura Wasif, have always strived to bring people together.
Their influence reaches from London’s dining landmarks, including early involvement in the Michelin-starred Hakkasan and Yauatcha, Soho’s dim sum teahouse that earned a Michelin star in 2005.
The family continues to extend its expertise in more everyday delights, such as freshly baked bread, through their ownership of Camden Bakery.
The family-owned business prides itself on providing food made with integrity, served with warmth, and rooted in community spirit.
With over 30 years in the village, the Wasif family is looking to provide a touch of nostalgia, blended with their renowned hospitality.
London-based illustrator Paul Davis, heritage architect Paul Gorringe, and interior architect Jasmine Gokmen have all contributed to create a space that merges historic charm with a welcoming atmosphere.
Eco Cheam is set to host its VIP press launch on Wednesday, September 17 2025 ahead of its full public opening, so at this stage you can’t get a taste for yourself.
The opening promises to bring the same passion and flavour that has captivated London since 1989.
Set a stone’s throw away from the historical grounds of Henry VIII’s Nonsuch Palace, Eco Cheam is poised to fuse community charm with culinary heritage.
