Hannah Waterman, who played the role of Laura Beale from 2000 until 2004, is joining the cast of a beloved Australian programme.

During her time on Albert Square, she was best known for playing the part of Ian Beale’s (Adam Woodyatt) third wife.

However, her character was brutally killed off when she went to answer the door and tripped over a toy before falling down a flight of stairs.

Going down as one of the most unforgettable storylines in the show’s history, it saw Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks) accused of murdering Laura.

EastEnders star lands new role on rival foreign soap opera 20 years after exiting the BBC show

Since exiting EastEnders, Hannah has starred in a number of shows, including Doctors, The Bill, New Tricks and Holby City.

Over a decade ago, she left the UK behind for a new life in Australia, kickstarting a successful career over there and starring in local dramas like Bali 2002.

Now, the former BBC actress is making a return to the soap circuit with her new role on Home and Away, according to The Sun.

A source said: “Hannah moved to Australia years ago for a new life, but she’s still acting.

“She loved dipping her toes back into the world of soap briefly, and who knows it could mean she finds her way back more permanently.”
